Client Request
Create modern site that displays imagery of their flowers and provides multiple ways of contacting them.
My Walkthrough
This client was completely “tech illiterate” and yet a joy to work with. They didn’t have much content to work with so my team decided to go heavy on the imagery (which they wanted anyways). It also dictated the direction to go with a fixed sidebar and the fullscreen homepage. The mockup was provided to me by an in-house designer and was in PDF form. I eyeballed it from a printed copy and so this whole site is a custom coded theme I created. Our designers we have were not “web” designers at the time so I just did the best I could with looking at the provided mockup.
As the development was progressing, a few things needed some tweaks and I made the recommendation to use CSS grid for their light-box gallery on their “What We Grow” page. They also wanted to make their physically address highly visible so we added that to the bottom of the sidebar as well has the fixed header when it broke down to mobile. My coworker also wanted more content on the homepage for SEO purposes (in spite of the already confirmed full screen image) so we decided to have the homepage content hidden until scrolled down. You also could have it auto-scrolled down when the “Learn More” button was clicked. Other than that, I didn’t have much say in the overall design so the other decisions where made before it hit my desk.
**side note: the mockup link below provides what was given to me. In the before/after link below, you will see the completed site on the right but the sidebar looks funky. That is because the sidebar is fixed and everything to the right of the sidebar is scrollable. So my fullscreen capture didn’t know how to fully capture it. **
