Client Request
Create a fresh, modern looking redesign of their decade old website. Must: be full width, use brand colors, contain a membership form since all previous submissions were done with paper and postal service.

My Walkthrough
The client didn’t have a lot of money to work with so to save on development time, I found a the free theme Shuttle by ShuttleThemes on the Wordpress marketplace and repurposed it to fit the client’s requests by way of making a child theme of it. Gutenberg was still in it’s beta at the time and I had to specifically download a plugin to use the update but I decided to use this site as Ironmark’s first Gutenberg website since I knew it would become standard in about 2 months. The site played well for the most part out of the box when I began inputing my own logo and content but it did require some CSS to make it responsive without breaking. Changed some colors and fonts. Repurposed the posts (blog) function for the events since I knew they had no desire to maintain a blog and I added it to the homepage. Nothing else of notice besides that. Added plugins for the FAQ and Member Form. Added a plugin to have the posts expire (so the events remove themselves when the date has pasted) and added another plugin to allow the client to freely organize their events (posts) regardless of their dates.

On the back end, besides creating my code as a child theme, I also build some of this on my personal laptop when I worked remote so I copied the SQL database, assets, wp content folder, and XML and then imported it all through myPHP and localhost folder on my Mac. I like to do this as opposed to working with the live site (regardless if it’s a subdomain or not, so that I maintain the practice of building locally and uploading when it’s completed. You can see the mockup files I sent the client for approval before development below as well as the before and after of the Shuttle theme usage.
